Categories of Animation:

Motion Capture

Motion Capture (Mocap) is all about recording. If there is a movie or TV Show in progress and theres a scene people cannot act in, They will use Motion Capture Animation. They will record the person acting out the scene then edit it.

2D Animation

2D Animation is the most basic kind of animation, and also one of the easiest. 2D animation is drawn frame by frame, which can be very time consuming. Most 2D animation apps have an outline of the previous frame to help draw the current frame as shown in the picture below.

Claymation

Claymation is a type of stop-motion animation that involves using clay figures. Like all stop-motion animation, these figures are photographed repeatedly after making small movements to give the impression of motion.

Motion Graphics

Motion graphics are pieces of animation or digital footage which create the illusion of motion or rotation

Typography

Typography Animation (Kinetic Typography) means "Moving Text". Typography is a techniqe to make text unique in it's own way. It expresses lot's of different and cool ideas of the art of animation.

3D Animation

3D animation makes animated figures (animated people, objects, and other figures) come to life. It is given bones, skin weights (...) which allows it to move in specific ways.

Mechanical Animation

Mechanical 3D product animation is creating 3D things out of the computer and showing them visually. The items made can be made with Mechanical Products and components...

Stop Motion

Stop Motion is a way of making animated films. The characters are controlled inside a individually photographed frame so they will change when the frame is played back and this frame will also allow them to make movements.
